about

The rack was a medieval torture device that took various forms but the purpose of all was the same - to stretch bones and ligaments to the point of breaking, causing permanent disability. The rack was employed heavily by the Inquisition (the name given by the Church to the panel charged with extracting confessions from those deemed to be heretics). Once a confession was extracted, the accused was turned over to the civil authorities for sentencing. Death by burning was the common sentence.

lyrics

The Cathar priest, Heresy speaks, For his crimes burn, burn, burn, burn
Cursed Witch, Fever pitch, To fear God learn, learn, learn, learn
The sinful Turk, In shadows lurk, Into the Light burned, burned, burned, burned
The ex-Jew, Is this true? Salvation (is) earned, earned, earned, earned

On the rack, feet are tied
On the rack, hands are tied
On the rack, body stretched
On the rack, sinful wretch
On the rack, feet are scorched
On the rack, arms are torched

Pardoned by God, given free reign
To torture at will, hand chosen to maim and kill
Inquisitor Dominicans, Doing God’s work
800 years of Hell…Hell on Earth, sanctioned from above
A ‘better’ world through the cleansing power of the Lord’s ‘love’

The Cathar priest, Heresy speaks, For his crimes burn, burn, burn, burn
Cursed Witch, Fever pitch, To fear God learn, learn, learn, learn
The sinful Turk, In shadows lurk, Into the Light burned, burned, burned, burned
The ex-Jew, Is this true? Salvation (is) earned, earned, earned, earned

On the rack, tongue is pinched
On the rack, nails are splinched
On the rack, in dungeon dank
On the rack, one more crank
On the rack, Torturer grins
On the rack, Church always wins
